PermissionsEx (PEX) is a new permissions plugin, based on Permissions ideas and supports all of its features. But PEX is more! It offers different backends, powerful ingame management, fine grained restrictions for world modification.

world edit both single player and multiplayer, that lets you:

Quickly create, replace or delete thousands of blocks in seconds
Level an entire mountain and replace it with natural looking terrain (with brush tools)
Generate spheres, cylinders, cuboids, forests, pumpkin patches, and snowy areas
Use your compass to quickly teleport to areas by left clicking or using /jumpto
Choose an area and have it instantly restored from backups
Copy areas, paste them, load them, and save them as .schematics

The Essentials plugin is available in a number of different bundles, and the various modules can be configured to give a unique server experience, tailored to your server and your players.

world guard protects your servers from various problems.

Block creeper and wither block damage, falling damage, etc.;
Disable fire spread, lava fire spread, ice formation, Endermen picking up blocks, etc.;
Blacklist certain items and blocks so they can't be used;
Warn moderators when certain items and blocks are used;
Protect areas of your world so only certain people can build in them;
Set areas where PVP, TNT, mob damage, and other features are disabled;
Protect your server from various 'exploits' like magical obsidian creation machines;
Disable, or enable, various Minecraft features, like sponges from classic;
Add useful commands like an immediate "STOP ALL FIRE SPREAD" command.
Enable only features you want! Everything is off by default.

Modifyworld
Modifyworld is a very powerful PermissionsEx feature. When enabled, it allows you very fine grained control over what players can do in your world, what will affect them, what items and blocks they are allowed to have, and what items or blocks they can use on other blocks and items (don't want them using a stone pickaxe on wood? You can block it with modifyworld!).

For example, a new player joins your server and you didn't notice it because you where AFK. With the right permissions configuration for ModifyWorld, they will be unable to do anything unless you promote or change their group!

[PEX] Step by step permission instructions (basic)

1. Download PEX

2. Add it to your plugins folder

3. Start your server

4. Join your server, make sure PEX started correctly by typing /pl if it says PermissionsEX you're ok!

5. Go to the console and type /pex user [yourname] add * this gives you permission to set the permissions ingame! The * means that you have permission for everything!
Example: /pex user Deonasoto add *

6. Make your first group by typing /pex group [groupname] create
Example: /pex group owner create

7. Add yourself to the group by typing /pex user [yourname] group set [groupname]
Example: /pex user Deonasoto group set owner

8. Make your group prefix by typing /pex group [groupname] prefix [prefix]
Example: /pex group owner prefix &6[&cOwner&6]&7 this will make your name look like this: [Owner]Deonasoto I added the colors using Minecraft color codes:

9. Add permissions to the groups by typing /pex group [groupname] add [permission]
Example: /pex user Deonasoto add essentials.fly this will make me be able to type the command /fly - each plugin has different permissions.

10. Set your default group by typing /pex default group set [groupname]
Example: /pex default group set guest this will make a new player joining, automatically be set the group "guest".


Bukkit Colour Codes


I was asked about how to use colour codes in Bukkit so here it is. Using the Essentials on a Bukket server allows you to use colour codes. To use them just follow these codes. If these dont work then sometimes different plugins change the symbol in front of the number.

Selecting cuboids
With the wooden axe, left and right click blocks to set a cuboid's first and second point.
Use //expand 10 15 up to make the area 10 units larger upwards and 15 units larger downwards.
Tip: If you want to make the selection extend between sky and bedrock, use //expand vert.
Selecting polygons
Use //sel poly to switch to the polygon selection mode.
With the wooden pickaxe, left click to start the first point.
Right click to add a point to the polygon.
